Freshwater Creek
(B Branch)
18th April 2009
Lachlan had asked me ages ago if I would like to do Freshwater canyon but it took until the weekend of the 18th April before we both had a free day to line it up. It was getting a bit late in the year for a wet canyon and gave us less daylight to get in and out, but Lachlan soon found some more crazy people to come with us and it was on!
So we headed out to Glen Davis, started walking about 8.30am, took 4 and a half hours to reach the canyon... and just made it out of the cliffs and back to the fire trail as night fell. Because it was getting dark quickly, some of us walked out in our wetsuits - this turned out to be a good choice as it protected us from the needle-like spines of the vegetation which mercilessly punctured everyone they could. Rhys in particular looked like a pin cushion when we finally got out of the bush.
This is a great canyon, well worth the long walk in. And the thorns.
