Italy and France, August-September 2008

After Geneva and Interlaken, going to Italy came down to Marco's invitation and the toss of a coin, since I had originally planned on hiking from Switzerland to be in France in time for the international canyoning rendezvous at Vercors. As it turned out I was in quite the wrong frame of mind for the amount of water to be found in Italian canyons, but Italy is quite amazing.

The photos here cover the all-too-brief time I spent in Italy, RIC2008 at Vercors near Grenoble, and Paris. (BTW the dates on some of the file names came straight off the camera and are not accurate).

Italy (Val Bodengo, Milan, & en route to France)

I wasn't happy with the photos I had from Bodengo canyon - the old Canon Powershot A40 has served faithfully in its waterproof housing for many years but nowit has finally reached the end of its useful life. The batteries keep cutting out when the unit gets cold (which is why I have only a small fraction of the canyon recorded here) and the contrast is noticeably much lower than it used to be. So it's time to buy another camera. And there wasn't really enough time to photograph anything in Milan, though I did enjoy the cathederal, and lunch with Marco, and browsing for CDs...

Paris

Over three days I must have walked from one end of Paris to the other... and there's so much to see. There was no way I was going to be able to sleep the night I got there, so I took the camera and went out to explore, finally getting back to the hotel around 1am in the morning.
